Sporting Kansas City beat the Portland Timbers in their last meeting, a 1-0 result at Children's Mercy Park last Sunday, but the Timbers home faithful had another meeting on their minds as SKC hit Providence Park this weekend.


These two teams produced a classic Knockout Round encounter in last year's MLS Cup Playoffs, Portland defeating SKC in an epic penalty-kick shootout en route to their run to the MLS Cup title.


Sporting were literally inches away from winning that one, only for Saad Abdul-Salaam's sudden-death PK to clang off not one, but two posts and roll agonizingly wide of the goal line, giving since-departed goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey the chance to win it in the 11th round of PKs.


Over the winter, Portland commemorated the memorable moment by opening a watering hole dubbed the “Double Post Bar” inside their home ground. And on Sunday, their supporters poked Sporting's scars by unveiling a sign that celebrates the lucky break that ended KC's season:
