Toronto FC 4, New England Revolution 1 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

Sebastian Giovinco is on fire.

The reigning MLS MVP came into Saturday night's game against the New England Revolution having collected four goals and three assists in his last three games. Giovinco added three goals to that total as Toronto FC beat the Revs 4-1.

Giovinco scored two fantastic goals in the first half as Toronto killed off the rest of the game. His first came in the 20th minute as a Toronto corner kick ended up back on his foot. The Atomic Ant blasted it with the outside of his right foot, curling it around Kei Kamara and past Bobby Shuttleworth.

He followed it up nine minutes later, curling a ball over Shuttleworth from the top-left corner of the Revs' 18. Giovinco then added a penalty kick to complete his second hat trick in four games. The win marks four straight at home for Toronto as they now sit just one point behind New York City FC in the Eastern Conference.

Three Things

1. GIOVINCO DOES IT AGAIN: After a somewhat sluggish stretch, Sebastian Giovinco has been on fire over the past three weeks. He now has seven goals and three assists in his last four games, putting him back atop the Golden Boot race and confirming his position as front-runner for the MVP award.
2. REVS FRUSTRATION: After a 2014 that saw them reach the MLS Cup, the New England Revolution had a somewhat disappointing 2015, finishing 5th in the East and getting bounced in the Knockout Round by D.C. United. 2016 has furthered the slide -- the Revs have barely collected more than a point per game. Two straight losses against Eastern Conference foes will not help their playoff chances.
3. BMO FORTRESS: After starting the season with eight consecutive road games, Toronto FC are taking advantage of their back-loaded home schedule. They have now won four straight games at BMO Field, which will come in handy as their next three games are on the road.
