Providence Park is rocking every time the Portland Timbers step on the field, and it might soon be rocking a little harder.

The Oregonian reported on Tuesday that the Timbers are currently assessing whether they can expand Providence Park by 3,500 seats. The stadium currently has a capacity of 21,144, but the Timbers want to add more capacity to help accommodate the nearly 13,000 fans on the waiting list for season tickets.

"We have huge demand to attend our matches and we need more seats to satisfy at least part of that demand," said Timbers president of business Mike Golub. "We've been examining a new approach in last few months that we're excited about that would add as many as 3,500 seats."

The Timbers are still determining whether their expansion plan for Providence Park is feasible, and they will need approval from the city if and when they decide to move forward with it.

Golub added that the earliest that renovations to the stadium could be made would be after the 2018 season.
