Report: FC Dallas on verge of transferring Fabian Castillo to Trabzonspor

Fabian Castillo - FC Dallas - Celebrates Goal

Will this be the day Fabian Castillo leaves FC Dallas?

Rumors have swirled around one of the league’s top young players ever since Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep first reported Friday that a transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor was imminent for Castillo.

And according to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Brian Straus on Monday, the deal could be finalized Tuesday.

Straus reports that the deal would work in two parts with Trabzonspor paying $2 million to to acquire Castillo on loan for the next six months and then paying another $2 million before next year to make it a permanent transfer.

One of three Designated Players on a FC Dallas squad that currently owns the best record in MLS, Castillo has 34 goals and 30 assists since signing as an 18-year-old out of Colombia before the 2011 season and becoming one of the franchise's most important building blocks.

Through 22 league games this season, the speedy winger has five goals and five assists. And in what may have been his final appearance for FC Dallas, he scored the winning goal in extra time to send the team to the US Open Cup semifinals on Wednesday.

Castillo was held out of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Colorado Rapids due to what head coach Oscar Pareja called “negotiations surrounding his contract.”

FC Dallas (12-6-5) return to action Sunday vs. Vancouver (6 pm ET, MLS LIVE) before opening play in the CONCACAF Champions League on Aug. 4 against Nicaraguan club Real Esteli.

Trabzonspor begins its 2016-17 Süper Lig season on Aug. 20.
