Houston Dynamo 0, FC Dallas 1 | 2016 US Open Cup Match Recap

Fabian Castillo - FC Dallas - vs. Houston Dynamo in US Open Cup

FC Dallas got a win over their arch-rivals, bragging rights in Texas, and a ticket to the next round.
All thanks to Fabian Castillo.

Castillo scored a winner a minute into second-half stoppage time, as FC Dallas edged the Houston Dynamo, 1-0, in a US Open Cup quarterfinals bout on Wednesday night. The Colombian winger scored at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas, on an individual effort, dribbling across and into the penalty area before beating Joe Willis with a shot to the near post.

Willis will likely be thinking he could have done better on the game's decisive play, but came up big twice before to keep the Dynamo on even terms. The Houston goalkeeper came off his line well and cut off the angle on a Michael Barrios shot in the 51st minute, and also denied the Dallas attacker on another of the visitors' best opportunities five minutes later.

FC Dallas also needed their netminder, Chris Seitz, to come up with a stop in a second half that was much more open than the tight first 45 minutes. Seitz stymied Mauro Manotas in the 48th minute after a Abdoulie Mansally played in a cross from the left. Manotas was also denied by the near post at the hour-mark when he hit a hard effort from the right.

Houston's inability ultimately proved costly, as Castillo struck from a tight angle in the 91st minute to send eliminate the Dynamo and send FC Dallas through to the semifinals of the tournament.
