The numbers behind the San Jose Earthquakes' nine-man win against Toronto

Saturday night's win against Toronto FC was a special one for the San Jose Earthquakes.

With the team up 1-0 in the 42nd minute, Anibal Godoy was shown a straight red. Two minutes later, Justin Morrow evened the scoreline off a Steven Beitashour cross and Toronto looked to be on their way to a big road win.

The situation got even better for the team north of the border in the 53rd minute, as Godoy's Panamanian national team teammate Alberto Quintero was also shown a straight red, dropping the Quakes down to nine men against a full Toronto squad.

Shockingly, 17 minutes later Simon Dawkins put San Jose in front thanks to an outside of the box shot that was misjudged by TFC goalkeeper Alex Bono. The Quakes would hold on and secure an astounding 2-1 win. It was the fifth time the Quakes had received two red cards in a game, but the first time they won.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, teams receiving two or more red cards in a game are 13-36-19.

San Jose became the first team to win after receiving two ejections since the Philadelphia Union defeated Chivas USA 1-0 on April 21, 2012. Lastly, they became the first team to score a game-winning goal after receiving two red cards -- against a team with no red cards -- since FC Dallas defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on August 7, 2004 thanks to 91st minute winner from Eddie Johnson.
