David Villa and Jack Harrison scored first-half goals and Frank Lampard netted a late insurance goal, his fifth in six games, to lift New York City FC to a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact Sunday afternoon at Stade Saputo
Villa put the visitors in front on 35 minutes with his league-leading 13th goal of the season. The NYCFC captain ran onto a through ball by Tommy McNamara, shielded himself from a Montreal defender and slipped the ball under Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush from eight-yards out.
Harrison, the red-hot rookie who now has three goals in eight appearances, doubled NYCFC’s lead in the second minute of second-half stoppage time with a sensational strike. Harrison received a cross-field ball from McNamara, dribbled at Ambroise Oyongo, twisting and turning the Montreal defender just inside the 18-yard box before clinically finishing inside the far post.
Harry Shipp cut the Impact’s deficit in half in the 55th minute on a long distance attempt that NYCFC goalkeeper Josh Saunders appeared to be screened on before Lampard put the finishing touches on the critical road win for the Eastern Conference leaders. His deflected shot off a pass from Villa found the back of the net five minutes from full time for the former England international's fifth goal in six games.
