The Colorado Rapids extended their unbeaten run in MLS play to 14 matches and stayed unbeaten in 10 home league matches, as Marlon Hairston's 78th-minute strike lifted them to a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
The match appeared headed for a chippy scoreless draw until Hairston took over, first stealing an errant pass and passing to Dillon Powers, then taking Powers' return ball and curling a pretty strike inside the opposite post.
Sporting, who were playing their third match in seven days, are winless in their last nine MLS road outings and saw their winless run against the Rapids extended to five games.

- MORE LATE HEROICS FROM RAPIDS: Hairston's match-winner continued the Rapids' trend of coming up with goals down the stretch. It was Colorado's ninth goal to come after the 75th minute this season. Hairston's winner improved Colorado to 8-0-2 this year at Dick's Sporting Goods Park
- A PENALTY SHOUT, UNHEARD: Sporting thought they had a chance to equalize in second-half stoppage time when substitute striker Diego Rubio turned toward goal with the ball and went down in the penalty area after contact with the Rapids' Jared Watts. There was no call from referee Drew Fischer, and Sporting were shut out for the second straight road match.
- ANOTHER WINGER DOWN FOR SKC: Sporting, already without Graham Zusi for the last three matches because of a hamstring injury, had to sub off Brad Davis early in the second half on Saturday. The club said Davis sustained a calf strain.
