Reports: Uruguay midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro on way to Seattle

Nicolas Lodeiro - Uruguay - World Cup 2014 vs. England

Boca Juniors have accepted an offer from the Seattle Sounders for midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro, according to FutbolMLS.com and Uruguayan outlet Embajadores de Gol

The Uruguayan report claimed that the signing will be confirmed on Friday afternoon, with Lodeiro set to travel to Seattle early next week.

Lodeiro has been linked to Seattle since May, but the Uruguayan international had indicated that he would stay with Boca through their Copa Libertadores run. The Argentine giants were eliminated from the continental tournament on Thursday, when they lost their semifinal series against Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle.

Lodeiro, 27, was on Uruguay’s roster for this summer’s Copa America Centenario and has represented his country at the last two World Cups. The 5-foot-7 midfielder would fill a major hole at the No. 10 position for Seattle, who have scored just 19 goals this season, tied for second-fewest in the league.

In addition to Boca Juniors, Lodeiro has lined up for Brazilian sides Corinthians and Botafogo, Dutch club Ajax and Uruguayan outfit Nacional.

Seattle, fresh off their 5-0 win against FC Dallas on Wednesday, will take on the Portland Timbers at Providence Park in a Cascadia Cup match on Sunday (3 pm ET; FOX in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).
