Sporting Kansas City trying "like heck" to add attacking midfielder, winger

Sporting Kansas City aren’t done with their summer wheeling and dealing.

SKC made a pair of moves on Tuesday, acquiring forward Cameron Porter from Montreal in exchange for defender Amadou Dia and signing 22-year-old midfielderEmmanuel Appiah after he was let go by the Colorado Rapids.

Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman indicated his club aren’t finished making moves later in the day, telling Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star that SKC are trying “like heck” to “add a winger and an attacking midfielder” before the summer transfer window closes on Aug. 3.

SKC have had issues locking down the wing position opposite Graham Zusi, with Brad Davis, Jacob Peterson and Connor Hallisey rotating at the spot this year. Justin Mapp has also been in the mix recently, appearing off the bench in Sporting’s last two MLS matches after dealing with an injury for much of the season’s first few months.

Kansas City have been one of the most active MLS teams this summer, officially signing Honduran left back Ever Alvarado and extending forward Diego Rubio’s loan through the end of the season after the window opened on July 4.

Any potential future moves would come less out of necessity than they would’ve a couple of months ago, when fifth-place Kansas City – who are currently on a five-game unbeaten run – were mired in a seven-match winless streak.
