Club América star Rubens Sambueza told reporters last week that he’d like to move to MLS after his current contract expires in 2018.
Sambueza, who was in New York with América for a friendly match against the Red Bulls, said that he’d like to try playing in the US. The 32-year-old Argentine has been an MLS killer in the CONCACAF Champions League, playing a key role for America in both their wins against Seattle in the quarterfinals of the 2015-16 tournament and against Montreal in the final of the 2014-15 competition.
“God willing, I can come to MLS,” he said. “I am very happy and well at America, I have two seasons left on my contract. This is a beautiful league that is growing and as a player I can say that I’d like to come. I won’t say in six months or a year, but when I finish my contract with America. I would like to try it here. I believe it is a competitive league that is growing a lot.”
Sambueza said that he’d prefer to land in New York, Chicago or LA if he came to MLS, but that he’d be open to signing with any club where he could contribute.
