A vital meeting in the Eastern Conference kicks off when the New England Revolution play host to New York City FC on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution are trying to pull themselves back above the red line, sitting four points outside the top six in eight place in the East, snapping a six-game winless run in a 2-0 home victory against the Colorado Rapids in Foxborough last weekend. NYCFC have moved back atop the Eastern Conference standings, reclaiming the top spot following a dramatic 3-2 win against D.C. United last week.

  • The Revolution put an end to a six-game winless streak and a four-game shutout streak, defeating the Colorado Rapids 2-0 on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. Juan Agudelo and Chris Tierney netted goals as the Revs put an end to their goalless drought after 374 minutes, the second-longest streak in the club’s history and the second-longest in MLS this season.
  • Frank Lampard scored a pair of goals – the first multiple-goal game of his MLS career – as NYCFC took a 3-2 win against D.C. United on Sept. 1. It was the 10th goal of the season, all coming over the last 13 matches, dating back to June 18. Lampard has 10 goals and one assist over the span, where NYCFC have posted an 8-3-2 record.
  • The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Frank Lampard netted the game’s only goal as NYCFC took a victory July 6 at Gillette Stadium; NYCFC’s Thomas McNamara and New England’s Chris Tierney each scored in the first half to leave the teams in a 1-1 draw March 26 at Yankee Stadium.
  • The teams met three times a season ago in NYCFC’s first year in MLS, and the Revolution won two, once at each ground. New England claimed a 1-0 victory July 18 at Gillette Stadium, then took a 3-1 victory on Decision Day at Yankee Stadium. New York City FC won the first ever meeting between the teams, a 2-0 win March 15 at Yankee Stadium, the club’s first-ever victory in Major League Soccer.
