New York City FC's Jack Harrison would be "open" to playing for USMNT

After sitting out the first two-plus months of the season due to an injury, New York City FC midfielder Jack Harrison has gotten his rookie season off to a solid start, recording two goals, notching two nifty assists and looking generally dangerous in five appearances since debuting on May 21.

Now the English-born midfielder, who moved to the US when he was 14, is talking about a potential future with the US national team.

The 19-year-old Harrison, who was the first overall pick in Januaryā€™s SuperDraft, recently told Empire of Soccerā€™s podcast, EoS Radio, that heā€™d be open to playing for the USMNT if he receives citizenship.

ā€œI would think it about it, yeah,ā€ he said. ā€œYou never know what is going to happen. Iā€™m just always open to new opportunities. It would be great to represent this country. But again, we would have to see later down the line.ā€

Harrison, who has never represented England on a youth level, wouldnā€™t be eligible to represent the US until he receives American citizenship, a process that would take years. Harrison would first have to receive a green card, then reside in the US for five years continuously before being eligible to apply for full citizenship.
