MLS Fantasy Rewind: Real Salt Lake take reins for Round 14

Yura Movsisyan celebrates goal for Real Salt Lake

We’re back MLS Fantasy Managers!

After taking a break for the Copa America Centenario, MLS play returned this weekend. Though some team rosters are still affected by summer call-ups for Copa America and for UEFA Euro 2016 as well as some lingering injuries, that allowed some for some lower-profile players to step forward.

Real Salt Lake were the leaders in contributions to the Dream Team for Round 14, with three attackers making their way onto the squad. Yura Movsisyan ($8.8m) came through with his first double digit fantasy performance of the season, as did Juan Manuel “Burrito” Martinez ($8.9m). The forward pair split goals for RSL over the weekend, and they turned in identical 10-point performances. Javier Morales ($10.6m) also made the team with nine points.

Toronto FC keeping a clean sheet over the LA Galaxy was enough for two defenders to make this round’s 4-4-2 formation. Drew Moor ($7.7m) scored the lone goal in the match and that plus the shutout was enough for him to be this week’s top point earner (15). Eriq Zavaleta ($6.8m) and his assist on the goal were right behind Moor with 12 points.

Mike Grella ($8.3m) and Benny Feilhaber ($11.0m) both had step-up performances of 14 points that made them top midfielders on the week.

With so many variables this week, top scores came in a bit under what the Dream Team suggested was possible. Fremont Trolls FC took top honors with an 83-point performance that included Moor, Feilhaber, and Grella which was enough to cover an Ignacio Piatti absence (currently scheduled to be out three weeks recovering from hand surgery). Congrats and enjoy your prize!

Galaxy Quest

Here’s what you need to know for the week ahead…

  • There are three games on Wednesday, putting the transfer deadline on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:00 pm Eastern.
  • Four Wednesday teams play again on the weekend (LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, Real Salt Lake) so there are a bunch of potential Double Game Week players.
  • Round 19 is a unlimited free transfer round, but that’s closer than it may appear with micro-rounds in early July. So don’t be afraid to take risks to make up for Cup absences and injuries.

The Galaxy have had to do some significant roster rotation to meet the demands of the schedule. With LA on a DGW where they won’t leave the state of California, Brian Rowe ($4.7m) and Mike Magee ($7.3m) look like especially good values.
