EA SPORTS FIFA 17: Trailer reveals even more gameday realism

The new trailer for EA SPORTS FIFA 17 dropped on Sunday, June 12, and it’s showing the game continues to draw on last year’s top developments.

The best part about FIFA 16 was EA Sports’ continuing pursuit of realism. EA pushed the envelope in comparison to previous editions, widening their developmental scope in last year’s version of the game by focusing on crafting a more true-to-life experience in areas other than just gameplay. The game’s visuals got a major upgrade, as did the commentary, presentation, and attention to detail.

If you’re an MLS fan (and, well, you’re reading this), this was perhaps the most important addition to FIFA 16. The league’s inclusion in the game no longer felt like an afterthought. EA thrust players like Clint Dempsey, David Villa, and Sebastian Giovinco into the spotlight, and that star power made every game played with MLS teams feel so much more dynamic.

Of course, as any soccer fan knows, the game day experience is what makes this sport so special, and FIFA 16 was the first time EA truly brought MLS into the fold with the addition of Seattle Sounders FC’s CenturyLink Field. (Well, that’s not to say that that everybody didn’t love trying to track the ball under the giant mech-spider shadow of Vancouver’s BC Place).

The CLink’s inclusion brought the experiential realism of an MLS game full circle. Finally, when you were tearing it up with Clint Dempsey and Ozzie Alonso, it was with the Hawk’s Nest in the distance and chants of “SEATTLE SOUNDERS” raining down around you.

If the new 55-second trailer for FIFA 17 is to be believed, then that push toward realism is still going full steam ahead. The emphasis on full motion-capturing of the world’s biggest stars, including Marco Reus and James Rodriguez, promises that the dynamism of star power is something players will experience more deeply than ever before.

It looks like EA is ready to double down on something that is undeniably true. No matter how much the game changes, one thing remains the same—it’s all about the feeling on game day.
