Liga MX club Atlas reportedly interested in FC Dallas' Walker Zimmerman

FC Dallas - Walker Zimmerman pumped up

A pair of journalists who cover Mexican soccer reported on Monday that Liga MX side Atlas are interested in FC Dallas defender Walker Zimmerman.

ESPN’s Cristina Alexander made the initial report. Tom Marshall, also of ESPN, followed up shortly after, adding that he’d heard about the Guadalajara-based club’s interest from a separate source than Alexander.

Zimmerman, 23, was selected by Dallas with the seventh overall pick of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. He graduated from his Generation adidas contract following the 2015 season and spent parts of the offseason on trial with clubs in Sweden and Norway before re-signing with Dallas in February.

The Georgia native has started 13 of Dallas’ 16 MLS matches this year, his first as a full-time starter. He has three goals in 50 career regular season appearances and scored the series-tying goal and buried the game-winning penalty kick in the shootout of FCD’s Western Conference Semifinal series against Seattle last fall.

Atlas finished the recently completed Liga MX Clausura season in 15th place with a 3-9-5 record.
