Chicago Fire’s music director's new scratch routine is, uh, fire

There are button-pushers, and then there are music selectors who respect and elevate the art of DJing. DJ Step, the Chicago Fire’s official DJ and music director, has proven himself among the latter.

He’s just dropped the official “Chicago Fire 2016 Hot Mix,” a scratch-heavy, cut-and-mix routine that clocks in just shy of four minutes. (He also released one in 2015, which you can watch here.) The inspiration? The team’s 2016 kits, a return to their classic red.

“This project was inspired by the first team’s return to the classic red-and-white-striped kit this year that was synonymous with the team’s early history and kit culture,” he says. “I felt like it was important to recognize the launch this year as an initiative that supporters really pushed for and campaigned with the front office. This is my salute to them and passion they bring to every match.”

Check this out as Step manages to cut and paste in the Welcome Back Kotter theme song, AC/DC, and an electro-infused version of that soccer chant favorite “Seven Nation Army,” among other sample nuggets.

The video, meanwhile, also features some amazing moments—like the team essentially dunking on Orlando City, and cameos by mascot Sparky and a person who dresses like Beetlejuice in the stands. Excellent.
