The Vancouver Whitecaps are the Portland Timbers' Cascadia Cup rivals, but they're also aliens from north of the border.
That was the none-too-subtle message of the Timbers Army's latest tifo, unveiled just before kickoff of Portland's Heineken Rivalry Week showdown with the 'Caps at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon.
Taking inspiration from Tim Burton's classic 1996 film "Mars Attacks," the tifo urges the Timbers to "Destroy The Canadian Menace," while an accompanying banner teased the invading visitors from British Columbia with a "Do not run we are your friends" message.
The Timbers duly took care of business, dispatching the Whitecaps in a wild 4-2 win.
