Orlando City SC 2, Montreal Impact 1 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

Two teams desperate for a win faced off on Saturday night in Orlando, and it was the home team that came away with it as the Lions secured their first win since April 3, ending a six-game winless drought.

Orlando City SC defeated the Montreal Impact 2-1 at Camping World Stadium with 2015 Rookie of the Year Cyle Larin providing both goals for the Lions. Star playmaker Ignacio Piatti scored Montreal's lone goal.

Piatti opened the scoring after just three minutes, finishing a fine build-up for his team. But then the Argentine went quiet for the rest of the first half.

Orlando would equalize on just their second shot of the half, which came two minutes before the break when KakĆ” found Larin's head on a set piece.

The second half was much more eventful with both teams getting plenty of chances. Larin finally finished one for the Lions in the 87th minute after some great combination play between KakĆ” and Julio Baptista.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. LARIN-KAKƁ ESP: Cyle Larin came into Saturday night's game with just one goal in his last six games. He jumpstarted his season against the Impact, scoring a brace due in large part to his connection with his captain, KakĆ”. The two hooked up on both of Orlando's goals as the Brazilian legend got his first assists since the Lions' last win on April 3.
  2. IMPACT SLIDE: After a fabulous start to the season, the Impact's season has taken a downturn. Playing this game without Didier Drogba, Mauro Biello's side saw their winless streak hit six after they failed to capitalize on any of their 14 shots after Piatti's goal in the third minute.
  3. SECOND IS BEST: After a first half that saw just five shots taken between the two teams, Orlando and Montreal came out firing in the second half. With both teams desperate for a win, they took 25 shots combined in a second half that saw both sides with quality opportunities to score.
