Hip injury likely to force Montreal Impact's Didier Drogba out vs. Orlando

Didier Drogba - Montreal Impact - celebration

It appears the Montreal Impact will have to make due without star striker Didier Drogba this weekend.

Drogba is dealing with a hip flexor injury that he picked up in this past Saturday's 1-1 home draw vs. the Philadelphia Union, and is likely to miss this the upcoming road game against Orlando City because of it.

The 38-year-old Ivorian did not train with the rest of the Impact on Monday, and will likely be held out of his fifth game of the season on Saturday at Camping World Stadium (7:30 pm ET; TSN2 in Canada, MLS Live in the US).

ā€œThe game is on [artificial] turf and because of his injury now I donā€™t think heā€™s going to play,ā€ Impact coach Mauro Biello told reporters on Monday. ā€œHeā€™s going to do some tests this week and weā€™ll see the severity of his injury.ā€

Drogba did not play in games at the start of the year as a precaution while he worked his way back to full fitness. He made his first appearance of the season on March 19, and has four goals and three assists in seven matches this season.

The prolific forward has scored in each of the Impact's last three games. Montreal currently sit tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with a 4-3-4 record.
