Sporting KC's Erik Palmer-Brown wins Portuguese LigaPro title with Porto B

Erik Palmer-Brown - Sporting Kansas City

On-loan Sporting Kansas City defender Erik Palmer-Brown and FC Porto B won the 2015-16 Portuguese LigaPro title on Sunday, beating Benfica B 3-1 to claim the second-division crown.

It’s the first league title for FC Porto B, the reserve squad of Portuguese first-division side FC Porto.

Palmer-Brown joined Porto on a year-long loan in February. Since the move, the 19-year-old Homegrown defender appeared in 10 matches, all of which were starts, and did not relinquish his place in the starting lineup after debuting on March 9.

According to Liga Portugal guidelines, reserve sides are allowed to compete in the country’s second-division but are unable to earn promotion to the first-division nor play in cup competitions.

An experienced US youth international, Palmer-Brown signed a Homegrown deal with Sporting KC in August 2013. He’s made 10 league appearances for SKC, including seven in 2015.
