Report: DC United's Steve Birnbaum has attracted bids from European clubs

Could D.C. United defender Steven Birnbaum to be the latest MLSer to move overseas?

It appears the opportunity has presented itself to Birnbaum, according to a report from CSN Chicago and FourFourTwo reporter Paul Tenorio. At least one club in Europe has put in an offer to scoop up the 25-year-old centerback.

Tenorio went on to report that Birnbaum has attracted at least the attention of clubs in Germany and Belgium.

Birnbaum has been a quality piece for D.C. United since being drafted in 2014, but it's probably his latest appearances for the US national team that are generating the most buzz. He played against Guatemala in the USA's second-leg win in March, in January he scored a game-winner against Iceland, and now he has made coach Jurgen Klinsmann's preliminary roster for Copa America.

His former D.C. United teammate Perry Kitchen recently made a move overseas, transferring to Heart of Midlothian FC in Scotland.
