Montreal Impact 2, Colorado Rapids 2 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

The Colorado Rapids went down twice, but found a response each time to walk away with a share of the points.

The Rapids and Montreal Impact played to a 2-2 draw at Stade Saputo on Saturday afternoon in a match-up of two of the league's best teams. The equalizer came in the 73rd minute via Rapids defender Bobby Burling, and it canceled out a low drive from distance from Maxim Tissot five minutes after halftime.

The Impact also held a lead early in the opening stanza after Didier Drogba scored off a free kick, but could not hold onto it. Shkelzen Gashi scored in the 47th minute to make the match 1-1, and he then helped set up the Burling goal that ensured that Colorado would leave Montreal with a result.

The result moved the Rapids into first place in the Western Conference with a 5-2-2 record and the Eastern Conference-leading Impact to 4-3-2.

Box Score

Three Things

  1. WHAT A MONTH: Saturday's result punctuated a strong April for the Rapids, who went 4-1-1 in their six matches and finished the month on a four-game unbeaten run.
  2. BUMP IN ROAD: On the other side, the Impact finished April without a win in their last three games. The club went 0-1-2 in those affairs.
  3. RUBBING SALT IN THE WOUND: The Impact and Burling have a bit of history, and it is safe to say that the Rapids' veteran defender only made himself even more of a public enemy in Montreal with Saturday's equalizer.
