Supporters pay tribute to Prince in weekend tifo

Prince - Super Bowl

Tifo can convey many different kinds of messages. Trash talking opponents, celebrating accomplishments, bragging about why your group or team is the best, registering complaints – we've seen them all.

Of course, some tifo comment on matters outside the stadium, too. Of note for this past weekend were the tributes to Prince, who passed last week in his home near Minneapolis. Little surprise that Minnesota United FC supporters group Dark Clouds honored the singer-songwriter's memory on Saturday:

D.C. United SG District Ultras also honored Prince with banners in the entertainer's trademark purple:

Of course, there was plenty of the usual tifo fare seen around the league this week, too. Columbus Crew SC's Nordecke displayed a Superman-themed tribute to goalkeeper Steve Clark.

The Sons of Ben pledged their loyalty to the Philadelphia Union once again with the message "Ad finem fidelis," which means "Faithful until the end."

And what's a tifo round-up without a rivalry game involved? Montreal Impact supporters group 1642 Montreal called 401 Derby opponents Toronto FC "clowns on the menu" on Saturday.
