Sueno MLS 2016

The third and final area tryout for SueƱo MLS 2016 will be held this weekend, with more than 400 aspiring young soccer players scheduled to participate in the nationally televised player search at tryouts hosted by the New York Red Bulls in Queens, New York, and Hanover, New Jersey.

Pre-registration for the New York Red Bulls event is full, but players are encouraged to sign up for the walk-up list starting at 7:30 am on Saturday. The tryouts are open to all boys ages 13-16.

Hereā€™s how itā€™ll all go down: All registered players will participate in a tryout hosted by New York Red Bulls coaches and scouts on Saturday at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Fields 8 and 9 from 7:30 am-7 pm. By the end of Saturday, the scouts and coaches will whittle the field down to 22 field players and three goalkeepers, who will be invited back for a longer tryout at the Red Bullsā€™ training facility in New Jersey on Sunday from 9:30 am-1 pm.

New York Red Bulls players will be in attendance at Saturdayā€™s tryout, and Univision Deportes personality Aly Villegas is scheduled to make a special appearance.

In addition to the tryouts, SueƱo MLS will host a free goalkeeping clinic on Saturday from 1-2 pm at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Friends and family of participating players, as well as the general public, are invited to watch the tryouts and enjoy the interactive fan zone presented by the event partners.

Five field players and one goalkeeper will advance to the SueƱo MLS finals, where theyā€™ll compete against finalists from the LA and Portland tryouts in Southern California from May 4-7. The top goalkeeper will be named El Portero Allstate, while the three best field players will earn a trip to Miami, where the SueƱo MLS winner will be announced live on the popular Univision sports show RepĆŗblica Deportiva on May 22. Both the SueƱo MLS winner and El Portero Allstate will win a spot in their local MLS teamā€™s academy.

Now in its 10th year, SueƱo MLS has discovered several top-notch players who went on to become pros or members of MLS academies. The most renowned SueƱo winner is current Santos Laguna defender Jorge VillafaƱa, who won the inaugural SueƱo MLS in 2007, played for Chivas USA and helped the Portland Timbers to MLS Cup 2015 before moving to Mexico in December.
