MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Kianz Froese, Shkelzen Gashi

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players, fined two more and suspended a staff member for actions taken in Week 2 of the 2016 MLS season.


Froese foul on Espinoza



The Disciplinary Committee has fined and suspended Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Kianz Froese one game for ā€œserious foul play that endangered the safety of opponentā€ Roger Espinoza in the 74th minute of Vancouverā€™s 2-1 loss at Sporting Kansas City last Saturday. Froese, who was called for a foul but not shown a card on the play, will serve his suspension during Saturdayā€™s match at the Seattle Sounders (10 pm ET, MLS LIVE in the US, TSN1 in Canada).


Gashi enters the field of play



Colorado Rapids attacker Shkelzen Gashi has also been fined and suspended one game by the Disciplinary Committee for illegally entering the field of play in second half stoppage time of the Rapidsā€™ 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy last Saturday. Gashi left the bench area and ran across the field to celebrate with his teammates following Marco Pappaā€™s late game-winning goal. Heā€™ll serve his suspension on Sunday at D.C. United (5 pm ET; ESPN2 in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).


Higuain contact with Rosenberry



The Disciplinary Committee has fined Columbus Crew SC midfielder Federico Higuain an undisclosed amount for violating the leagueā€™s policy of ā€œhands to the face, head or neck of an opponent.ā€ Higuain made contact with Philadelphiaā€™s Keegan Rosenberry in the 80th minute of Crew SCā€™s 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union last Saturday.


Obayan embellishment



Additionally, the Disciplinary Committee has fined Real Salt Lake midfielder Sunny Obayan an undisclosed amount for embellishment following a challenge from Seattle Sounders midfielder Ozzie Alonso in the 85th minute of RSLā€™s win against the Sounders last Saturday.


Other news


The Disciplinary Committee also issued an undisclosed fine and one-game suspension to Chicago Fire staff member Mario Cruz for entering the field of play during the 54th minute of Chicagoā€™s 1-1 draw at Orlando last Friday. Cruz will serve the ban during the Fireā€™s match against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday (5 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
