Transfer Watch: Mexican star Carlos Vela reportedly still keen on MLS move

Carlos Vela - Mexico - Gold Cup 2015

The Carlos Vela-to-MLS rumors just won’t quit.

After reportedly being chased by the Colorado Rapids this winter, the Mexican striker is apparently again kicking the tires on a move to MLS, with ESPN Deportes reporting on Monday that that Vela would like to leave Spanish club Real Sociedad this summer to move to the league.

Vela, who was recently punished after skipping a Sociedad practice to attend a Chris Brown concert in Madrid, has spent his entire professional career in Europe. He’s been with Real Sociedad since 2011 and has scored 55 goals in 163 La Liga appearances with the club.

The 27-year-old has had a turbulent career with the Mexican national team. He’s scored 15 goals in 47 career appearances with El Tri and played with the team at the 2010 World Cup, but rejected every call-up he received from March 2011 to November 2014, when he returned to the squad. He was a member of Mexico’s squad at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, scoring two goals to help El Tri to the tournament title.
