Toronto FC acquire right of first refusal for Ben Spencer in trade

Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake announced a trade on Thursday, in which Toronto acquired the right of first refusal for forward Ben Spencer in exchange for targeted allocation money.

Spencer, 20, was a member of the Real Salt Lake-Arizona academy, and subsequently spent time with Chivas USA's academy. He signed a professional deal with Norwegian club Molde in 2013, and went on loan to Indy Eleven in 2014 and to TFC's USL side Toronto FC II last year, only to be sidelined by injury, preventing him from making any appearances for the team. He is also a US youth international.
