Leaving it late: Orlando City make MLS history in comeback

Adrian Winter - Orlando City SC - Celebration

If you like goals, Week 1 of the 2016 MLS season was for you. And if you like late goals, then Orlando City's furious comeback was just what you wanted.

The Lions, down 2-0 to Real Salt Lake at the Citrus Bowl in the 93rd minute, scored two goals -- Cyle Larin's in the 94th minute and Adrian Winter's equalizer moments later -- to tie up the game, stunning RSL and the sending the more than 60,000 fans in attendance (minus the RSL supporters there, one imagines) into delirium.

Comeback, City. What a way to end the game in Orlando.

The late comeback also made history, as the first game in MLS for two goals to be scored after the 93rd minute to notch a draw.

It was the second time a team came back from 2-0 down in second half stoppage time to tie the game, following San Jose tying New England on July 24, 2004. Two other games (New England vs. Chicago, June 11, 2006; Vancouver vs. Kansas City, Apr. 2, 2011) featured two goals being scored in a 3-1 game in stoppage time to end in a 3-3 draw.
