New York Red Bulls sign defenders Zach Carroll, Justin Bilyeu

The New York Red Bulls have added to their defensive corps for the upcoming 2016 season with the announcement on Thursday they have signed 2016 MLS SuperDraft selections Justin Bilyeu and Zach Carroll.


"Justin and Zach have done very well this preseason," said Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis in a team statement. "They have started to adjust to the pro environment on the field and have fit nicely into the group off the field. Both players have a lot of potential and we are more than pleased to add them to our MLS roster."

Bilyeu, was drafted 18th overall by the Red Bulls in January's SuperDraft. The St. Louis native played collegiately at SIU-Edwardsville for four years, making 59 appearances and garnering NSCAA Third Team All-West Region and the Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, in addition to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team his junior season.


Carroll was drafted 38th overall, playing collegiately at Virginia for two seasons before transferring to Michigan State and playing two seasons for the Spartans. The Grand Blanc, Michigan product earned First Team All-Big Ten and NSCAA Second Team All-Midwest Region honors his senior season. Carroll is also a US youth international, having represented his country at the 2011 U-17 World Cup.
