Young Chicagoland resident presents Pope Francis with a Chicago Fire soccer ball

Pope Francis presented with a Chicago Fire soccer ball

The Chicago Fire have a new fan in a high place, after seven-year-old Chicagoland resident William Morkin presented the Pope with a Fire soccer ball at the Vatican City.

As detailed on Chicago-Fire.com, the story has its beginnings in a childrenā€™s book. Last November, the Vatican announced that the Holy Father would author a book named ā€œDear Pope Francisā€ comprised of his responses to letters from kids around the world. Morkinā€™s question was one of 30 selected for the book from the millions that were submitted.

The resident of suburban La Grange, Illinois got straight to the point with his query:

ā€œDear Pope Francis, if you could do one miracle what would it be?ā€

His response? ā€œI would heal every child.ā€

As part of his inclusion in the book, Morkin was among a small group of children who visited Vatican City for a meeting with Pope Francis and presented him with a gift from their homeland. Morkin brought along a Fire soccer ball for the Pontiff, a native of Argentina and a lifelong fan of Buenos Aires club San Lorenzo.

Bravo to William! Weā€™ll know where to look if the Fire start the season with a few lucky bounces.
