FIFA Election: MLS Commissioner Don Garber to cast US Soccer’s vote for Prince Ali

It’ll be the biggest soccer story in the world on Friday: the election to replace Sepp Blatter as new FIFA president.

And MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be among those casting a ballot.

Garber is a member of the US delegation that left on Tuesday for FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland where he'll be joined by US Soccer president Sunil Gulati and other American soccer representatives. It will be the MLS Commissioner representing the US Soccer Federation in the voting process.

“I’ll be a delegate this year, for the first time in many years,” Garber told reporters in New York City on Monday at an event announcing the league’s new partnership with TAG Heuer. “I feel very strongly that this is a moment of truth for our sport. And I hope and really, truly hope the leaders of our sport can come together and pick the president that can represent a new FIFA for all of us. Not somebody that will just be a new name but represent some of the old ways of doing business."

There are five candidates running to replace suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter: Prince Ali, Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Gianni Infantino, Tokyo Sexwale and Jerome Champagne. USSF president Sunil Gulati Tweeted on Thursday the US delegation would vote for Prince Ali:
