Vancouver Whitecaps' Christian Bolaños shares story of remarkable career in The Province

Costa Rican international Christian Bolaños could end up being one of the signings of the offseason, even if his story has flown a bit under the radar since he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps on January 20.

The 31-year-old midfielder has had quite the journey to Vancouver, starting out in his native Costa Rica before moving to Europe, where he went toe-to-toe against some of the sport’s biggest names in some successful UEFA Champions League campaigns. He repeatedly attracted interest from English Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, and the complexities of how none of those mooted moves came to pass makes for a story unto itself.

A major part of the Ticos team that made an unforgettable run to the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup, Bolaños spoke at length about his career with The Province’s Marc Weber, touching on chances taken and opportunities missed for a story that ran over the weekend. The piece, which is well worth a read, can be found here
