Transfer Watch: New York Red Bulls reportedly finalizing deal for Ghanaian defender Gideon Baah

Gideon Baah - Helsinki - Close up

The New York Red Bulls appear to be closing in on Ghanaian defender Gideon Baah, as various reports claimed over the weekend and on Monday that the 24-year-old center back is in the US to finalize a deal with the defending Supportersā€™ Shield winners.

Baah, who spent the last three years playing in Finlandā€™s top flight with FC Honka and HJK Helsinki, was reportedly close to signing with the Red Bulls last week. He has changed the location on his Twitter profile to ā€œNew Jersey, USA.ā€

New York sold US international center back Matt Miazga to Chelsea last month and will be without his 2015 partner, Damien Perrinelle, for much of the 2016 season as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in the playoffs.

Baah has one cap with the Ghanaian senior national team, and was linked to FC Barcelonaā€™s B team during the recently completed European transfer window.
