FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez reports to Mexico Under-23 national team camp

FC Dallas signs Anibal Chala

FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez reported on Sunday to a Mexico Under-23 national team training camp, the club announced on Monday.

The camp, which is taking place in Mexico City, will run through Wednesday. The Mexico U-23s qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games last fall; theyā€™ll attempt to defend their gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics at the Rio games this summer.

This is the second time the 20-year-old Gonzalez has been called by the Mexican U-23s this year. The first time came in January, when he declined to join the US national teamā€™s January camp to instead train with Mexicoā€™s Olympic squad.

Gonzalez, who played for Mexico at last yearā€™s FIFA U-20 World Cup, was born in the US and is therefore eligible to make a one-time national team switch to the USMNT. Heā€™s eligible to make that switch until he plays in a competitive game with El Triā€™s senior team.
