Transfer Watch: LA Galaxy reportedly make offer to Joleon Lescott, linked to Jelle Van Damme

Joleon Lescott

It’s no mystery that the LA Galaxy are in need of defensive help after the departure of center back Omar Gonzalez.

And news emerged Friday that they could be on the verge of signing two veteran defenders currently plying their trade in Europe.

Los Angeles Times writer Kevin Baxter tweeted that the Galaxy have made an offer to Aston Villa’s Joleon Lescott and are also linked to Standard Liege’s Jelle Van Damme.

Sky Sports also reported on Twitter that Aston Villa have received a bid of £3 million for Lescott from LA.

FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas, meanwhile, tweeted in response to Sky Sports, saying the Galaxy told him they have not made an offer for Lescott.

Both players have extensive international experience with Van Damme having been capped 31 times by Belgium since 2003 and Lescott having made 26 appearances for England since 2007.

Lescott started his professional career with Wolverhampton in 2000 and has since played for Premier League clubs Everton, Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion. He was linked to the Portland Timbers in 2014.

Van Damme has made 205 appearances for Belgium side Standard Liege since 2011 and has also played for Wolverhampton, Anderlecht, Southampton, Ajax and Germinal Beerschot.
