Report: Portland Timbers set to land Jack McInerney in trade with Columbus Crew SC

Jack McInerney - Columbus Crew SC - Races Forward

The Portland Timbers might have lost a good young forward this offseason, but they have reportedly found a replacement.

ESPNFC.com reported on Monday morning that the Timbers are set to acquire forward Jack McInerney via a trade with Columbus Crew SC. Portland are set to give up allocation money in exchange for the 23-year-old McInerney, but it is unclear if it is regular allocation or TAM that the MLS Cup champions are sending to Columbus.

McInerney completed his contract at the end of 2015, but had to be traded for because Crew SC held his rights after trying to sign him to a new deal this offseason. He has reportedly agreed to a new deal with the Timbers and is heading over to Portland to bolster the front line.

McInerney will help fill the void left behind by Maximiliano Urruti's exit, who was picked up by FC Dallas with the No. 1 pick in last month's Re-Entry Draft. McInerney joins the Timbers after a 2015 campaign in which he scored a combined six goals while playing for both Crew SC and the Montreal Impact.
