Report: Homegrown defender Matt Miazga spurns New York Red Bulls contract

Matt Miazga, New York Red Bulls

Matt Miazgaā€™s future with the New York Red Bulls is up in the air.

Yahoo Sports is reporting, citing multiple sources, that the RBNY Homegrown has turned down offers on a new contract with an eye toward a move out of MLS, likely to Europe.

The report cited one source that said the 20-year-old declined ā€œsignificant pay-raise offers.ā€

A FourFourTwo report in November linked the US youth international standout, who recently received his first senior-team call-up, to Chelsea, Leicester City and Stoke City, while Yahoo reported that Miazga has ā€œthree Premier League teams trailing him.ā€

The Red Bulls exercised an option on Miazga for the 2016 season, meaning he would only be free to leave on a free transfer at the end of next year. Miazga signed as a Homegrown Player in 2013, cracking the starting lineup this year to notch career highs with 24 starts in 26 appearances, while recording a goal and assist in league play for the Supportersā€™ Shield champion Red Bulls.
