Report: Houston Dynamo co-owner Gabriel Brener on verge of gaining controlling stake in club

The Houston Dynamo could soon have a new majority owner, according to a report out of Texas.

FOX 26 Houston reported on Tuesday that Dynamo minority owner Gabriel Brener is in the process of bringing in two outside investors to buy out current majority owner Anschutz Entertainment Group, which controls 50 percent of the Dynamo and also owns the LA Galaxy. Retired boxing great Oscar de la Hoya owns the remaining 25 percent of the Dynamo.

Should the reported sale go through, there would no longer be any ownership groups with majority ownership of multiple MLS clubs.

FOX 26 reported that one of the two new investors potentially set to join Brener to buy out AEG is based in Houston. Per the FOX 26 report, the proposed transaction would also give Brener, a Los Angeles-based businessman, control of National Women’s Soccer League club Houston Dash.

Dynamo president of business operations Chris Canetti confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that there are "serious negotiations ongoing with regards to a possible ownership change of the Dynamo, Dash and BBVA Compass Stadium."

He added: "Given that nothing is final and the process continues to unfold, we cannot provide any further details at this time."
