Wake Forest, Clemson earn top seeds in NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament

Virginia, 2014 NCAA Champions

The 48-team field for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship was announced on Monday, with powers Wake Forest, Clemson, Georgetown and Akron earning the top four seeds. Each of those teams will have home-field advantage until this year's NCAA College Cup, which will be held at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas from Dec. 11-13.

Three more ACC schools – North Carolina, Syracuse and Notre Dame – were seeded Nos. 5-7, respectively, while Stanford, led by US international forward Jordan Morris, was seeded eighth.

First- and second-round games will be played this weekend, beginning Thursday, with the top 16 seeds earning byes and only having to play once in the opening week. The Round of 16 will be held the weekend of Nov. 28, and the quarterfinals will take place on the weekend of Dec. 5.

Last year's champion, Virginia (pictured), and runner-up UCLA both received at-large bids and will host opening-round games, while neither of last year's beaten semifinalists, Providence and UMBC, reached the tournament.
