Jozy Altidore netted a goal for a second consecutive game in TFC’s 3-1 home win vs. Philadelphia, his 12th goal of the season. It was TFC’s third win in a row; they scored nine goals in the three victories, with seven of those coming from the team’s three Designated Players (Sebastian Giovinco 4, Altidore 2, Michael Bradley 1).
Crew SC have lost back-to-back games for the first time since June 3-6, following their 2-1 defeat by the New York Red Bulls in their last match, Oct. 3 at Red Bull Arena.
The teams are meeting for the third time this season. In the last meeting, TFC’s Jozy Altidore converted a late penalty kick as the teams ended in a 3-3 draw July 25 at Mapfre Stadium; on March 14, Justin Meram and Kei Kamara scored four minutes apart to lead Crew SC to a 2-0 win in Columbus.
The win in the first meeting was Crew SC’s first at home in the series since 2013. TFC have won just three matches all-time in Columbus – two of those coming a season ago.
Toronto FC have won their last two home meetings with the Crew, their first ever in the series, after three losses and five draws over the first six-plus seasons.
