American Exports: Injury, personal matters keep Aron Jóhannsson out of Werder Bremen training

AMSTERDAM – Werder Bremen are hoping nicked forward Aron Jóhannsson will be back in full training after spending a couple of days tending to a personal matter in Iceland.

The US international was a late scratch for Saturday's 3-0 Bundesliga home loss to Bayer Leverkusen after suffering a muscle injury in training.

"He has an abductor strain," Bremen press officer Marita Hanke told MLSsoccer.com. "Now Aron is, due to a private, urgent matter, in Iceland. Thursday, our doctor will examine him, and then it will be decided if he's back in full training."

Jóhannsson trained individually on Sunday before leaving for Iceland, but Kicker reported on Monday that Bremen boss Viktor Skripnik is confident the American will be ready for Saturday's short trip to face Hannover 96.

The No. 9 shirt has scored twice in his last four Bundesliga outings. However, Werder Bremen have dropped three league games in a row to fall into 13th place after seven rounds.
