MLS Fantasy Boss: Death, taxes and double game weeks? Not so fast when it comes to Round 30

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 8 pm ET

They say that death and taxes are the only sure things in life, but the past several rounds may have made many fantasy managers start to think that MLS double game weeks should be added to that list.

Four teams have a DGW this round, and they offer several excellent fantasy options. But don’t get tunnel vision, because past results show that we should not overlook the point potential of a single game week player. These are the players I’m looking at for Round 30.

Goalkeepers

DGW Options: With Chicago and Sporting KC’s starting keepers both suffering from injuries, the DGW keepers options are cut in half. But the reaming starters are the only ones I would consider adding if you need to make a change this round. Evan Bush (MTL $5.4) comes out as my top pick due to his two recent clean sheets and Chicago and D.C.'s poor goalscoring records on the road. Tyler Deric’s (HOU $5.0) recent home outings have not been as good as Bush’s, and Houston have the more difficult pair of games, but the Dynamo have a strong home record and that’s worth the risk for me during a DGW.

Defenders

Value DGW: If you are looking for a cheap DGW player, then you need to get Montreal's Donny Toia (MTL $5.3). His defensive numbers are not amazing, but they are high enough that earning two bonus points per game is not impossible. Toia also did not play all 120 minutes during the Impact's last DGW, so there is a good chance he’ll see two full games this round.

SGW Long Shot: If you need to make up some ground in your league, then consider adding Justin Morrow (TOR $6.1) to your team. Toronto have not been known for keeping clean sheets, but Orlando’s inability to score on the road is worse. Morrow has also earned a goal and an assist over his last six games, so you may get lucky with some offensive points as well.

Midfielders
Risk vs. Reward
: If you’re like most managers, then you are probably eyeing
Benny Feilhaber
(SKC $10.6) to take advantage of his DGW. It’s an understandable move when you look at his recent scoring record, but he comes with a risk. SKC will play three games over the next week thanks to the US Open Cup final, so rotation becomes a real factor for their players. Benny is also one card away from a suspension, so a bad call could relegate him to SGW status.

Pricey Differential: On form differentials are always great to find, but they don’t usually come with the price tag that Brad Davis (HOU $10.5) has. However, over his last five games, Davis has scored two goals and two assists, so he may be worth it. The Dynamo also have a double home game this week, so Davis’ chance for more points is good.

SGW Pick: If you have not bought a ticket for the Diego Fagundez (NE $7.6) goalscoring train yet, then consider picking him up for the next two rounds. He was rested during the Revs’ second game last week, so he should be fresh this round when New England faces a Philadelphia team with one of the worst away defenses in the league. If his form holds out, he could make it five consecutive rounds with a goal.

Forwards

DGW Pick: If you’re going to bring in a DGW forward this round, then it has to be Didier Drogba (MTL $10.4). The last time the Impact faced Chicago, Drogba came away with a hat trick. That may not happen again during this DGW, but if he plays in both games, I would not be surprised if he comes away with three or four goals by the end of the round.

Good as Gold
: The battle for the Golden Boot continues and
Kei Kamara
(CLB $10.0) is still leading the pack. Columbus is currently averaging over two goals per game when at home, so the chances for Kamara to add to his total are excellent, especially against a Portland team that has struggled to find success on the road.

Home Form: LA's massive goalscoring flood may have ended, but Robbie Keane (LA $12.0) should still be considered a goal threat this round. The Galaxy are undefeated at home and they are hosting a Dallas team that has only won one of their last three away games. The stage is set for Keane to come away with points, but only if you have the budget to balance his price with your other DGW targets.

These are the players I think will help you find the right balance of SGW to DGW players. Who do you like who’s not on the list? Post your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to stop by MLS Fantasy Boss for all of our latest charts, articles, and live chat. Good luck!
