When you almost single-handedly beat your most hated rivals, it means something.
On Tuesday morning, Bradley Wright-Phillips was named MLS Player of the Week for his two-goal, one-assist performance in the New York Red Bulls’ 3-0 dismantling of rival and Eastern Conference leading D.C. United on Sunday.
With the victory, RBNY now trail United by just two points in the table with three games in hand.
Wright-Phillips started things off by assisting Lloyd Sam on a counter attack in the 33rd minute, taking a pass from Kemar Lawrence in the center of the attacking third before slipping Sam into the box for an easy finish.
The Englishman's first goal of the night was a stunner, a smashing volley past United goalkeeper Bill Hamid to double RBNY’s lead that's up for AT&T Goal of the Week. He capped his stellar night in the 64th minute by running on to Sacha Kljestan's ball in behind before tucking the ball in the far corner.

It wasn’t Wright-Phillips' only game of the week, as the Red Bulls came out on the losing end of a 3-2 result against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night. The striker now has 13 goals and seven assists on the season.
