American Exports: US international DeAndre Yedlin loaned to Sunderland for remainder of EPL season

AMSTERDAM – Tottenham right winger DeAndre Yedlin has joined Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the Premier League season, the club announced mere moments after the summer market deadline passed.

MLSsoccer.com can confirm that Spurs rejected two other loan offers for the US international from the continent as the deadline approached. Sources previously indicated that Yedlin was also wanted for loan deals by clubs in the English Championship, Denmark, Italy, Spain and at least one other European country.

"I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to play for a club with such great history," Yedlin told the Sunderland website. “I’ve heard fantastic things about Sunderland and the supporters from Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore. Claudio speaks very highly of [current Sunderland manager] Dick Advocaat from his time at Rangers.”

Yedlin joins a Sunderland side that recently debuted countryman Lynden Gooch in Capital One Cup action. The Black Cats sit winless at the bottom of the EPL table through four game. It remains to be seen if the American will be available when Sunderland return to action with a Sept. 13 visit from, you guessed it, Tottenham.
