Tim Howard grimaces

AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard and Everton held regional rivals Manchester City in check for an hour on Sunday evening, but the Premier League leaders eventually broke through to steal a 2-0 win at Goodison Park.

The returning US netminder notched seven saves, including five in the opening half-hour, and a pair of cross captures. However, the Citizens hit twice in the last 30 minutes to deal Howard his fourth consecutive loss in the series between the two teams.

Over in the Bundesliga, Alfredo Morales and Ingolstadt came crashing down to earth with a 4-0 home loss to Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder made a bid to bag an assist for the second week running with the game still goalless in the 49th minute, but Moritz Hartmann was unable to finish his cut-back feed from the right. On the day, Morales contributed two tackles, two clearances, a pass interception and a cross block.

One flight down, Bobby Wood worked a quiet 65-minute shift as Union Berlin settled for a 0-0 draw with Wood's former employers, 1860 Munich. The hosts remained winless through four rounds.

Across the border in Eredivisie action, Rubio Rubin was on for the final 14 minutes of FC Utrecht's 1-1 share away to ADO Den Haag. The Red-and-White Army have but two points from the first three matches, and are winless in five league games dating back to last season.
