Fantasy Doctor: Double your score twice by choosing the right captain during double-game weeks

Benny Feilhaber, Fantasy Doctor

Transferring in hot players isn’t the only task MLS Fantasy managers face week-to-week. There’s also the question of who to captain. In a double-game week like Round 25, the decision gets a little easier as managers have the option to double a double. Who doesn’t love a double double?

When choosing who gets the C on your fantasy team, you’re looking for the player most likely to have a double-digit week all on his own. David Villa ($11.4) is on a double this week and registered two 10-point performances in his last three outings. Benny Feilhaber ($10.8), also on a double, has gone 8, 12, 8. Of course there’s no denying the appeal of Kei Kamara ($9.6), who gets the benefit of playing at home twice this week.

Let's take a quick question from Twitter. Steven Clark has already made his transfers, but he wants help choosing his captain.

Hey MLS Fantasy Doctor,
I’ve already made my transfers, bringing in the Columbus duo. It’s an embarrassment of riches, but I have no idea who to captain:

There's a plethora of options here, and bully to you for being properly prepared for the double-game week. I’m on board Team Feilhaber for this week, because he's the most consistently incredible of the four DGWs at your disposal.

Last week I called a bevy of goals at Yankee Stadium my shoe-in of the week, which D.C. United repaid me for by only scoring once. Still, it’s hard to think NYCFC’s defensive woes are over forever, and Kansas City have their own defensive issues. Kamara is certainly an attractive option as well.

This wasn’t my only Kamara-related question this week. Folk want to get him on board, and rightfully so. Josh Mondle is thinking of taking a penalty to bring him on.

Dear MLS Fantasy Doctor,
Should I take the penalty to add in Kamara for Keane this week? What else can I do for the future?

I support taking the penalty, especially if you’re going to captain Kamara. Robbie Keane against NYCFC’s defense at high noon beneath the California sun is going to be a thing, but LA do have a bye coming up. Kamara the human goal machine should pay off this week and keep you going in the weeks to come.

So you’ve got your captain in place, and you need to fill the rest of your crew with some fine sea men.

Let’s see who is on the up and up these days. Adam Kwarasey ($6.0) has been a goalkeeper extraordinaire for the Timbers lately, and a fantasy find. The Timbers have three straight clean sheets, leading Kwarasey to an 8, 8, and a 9 in his last three outings. If you’re looking for a 'keeper, I’d start there.

Kwadwo Poku ($6.9) finally got a full match, which for fantasy owners is cause for extreme celebration. In the two times he's gone 90 minutes, Poku turned in a 14 and a 16. With all the minutes Kreis has to cover this week, Poku certainly has to get a crack at a full game again.
