SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES vs. COLORADO RAPIDS
AVAYA STADIUM, San Jose, California
March 6, 2015 (WEEK 1, MLS Game #6)
3:00 PM ET (MLS LIVE)

A pair of clubs aiming to get back into the postseason picture in the Western Conference meet to open the new season when the San Jose Earthquakes play host to the Colorado Rapids at Avaya Stadium on Sunday afternoon. For the Quakes, it's been three years now without a visit to the MLS Cup Playoffs, coming off a seventh-place finish in the West a season ago. The Rapids have failed to reach the postseason in each of the last two seasons, ending the 2015 campaign in 10th place in the Western Conference.

  • The Quakes concluded their preseason schedule with a 1-0 victory against the NASL New York Cosmos on Saturday afternoon at Avaya Stadium, with Clarence Goodson scoring the gameā€™s only goal.
  • The Rapids finished off their preseason campaign with a 3-0 win against USL side Arizona United SC on Saturday evening in Tucson, as new Designated Player signing ShkĆ«lzen Gashi scored one goal and set up another. It was the Rapidsā€™ second win of the preseason, both against non-MLS competition.
  • The Quakes have a 12-game undefeated streak alive vs. the Rapids. The Rapids last defeated San Jose in the first meeting in the 2011 season; the Quakes have won six of the 12 meetings since, with six draws.
  • When the Quakes took a 1-0 victory last Aug. 14 at Avaya Stadium in the second meeting with the Rapids, it ended a string of four consecutive draws in the all-time series. The last victory for either team had come in 2013, a 1-0 Quakes win on Oct. 9 at Buck Shaw Stadium.
