Save of the Week Update: Real Salt Lake's Jeff Attinella closing in on second straight honor

MLS Save of the Week: Week 22

Jeff Attinella and the Real Salt Lake defense had a rough go last Saturday, giving up an astounding six goals in their wild loss at D.C. United.

While it was hardly a night to remember for Attinella – who, it should be noted, wasn’t at fault for any of D.C.’s goals – it looks like he’ll have at least one positive to take out of the experience. The 26-year-old is in prime position to take home his second straight Save of the Week honor, with his stop on ex-RSL teammate Álvaro Saborío holding a commanding lead in the weekly voting.

Attinella currently has 36.84 percent of the vote, more than 15 percentage points more than Orlando’s Tally Hall, who is in second with 21.43 percent of the vote. D.C.’s Andrew Dykstra is in third with 20.88 percent, New York Red Bulls ‘keeper Luis Robles is in fourth with 18.83 percent and Toronto FC’s Joe Bendik rounds out the voting with just 2.02 percent of the vote.

Should Attinella hang on, it would be his third Save of the Week win of the year – one more than RSL starter Nick Rimando.

Will Attinella bring home back-to-back honors? Or will Hall, Dykstra or Robles make a late push to unseat him? Vote now – the winner will be announced on Friday.

Voting runs until 11:59 pm PT on Thursdays. For complete coverage of the MLS Save of the Week – including an archive of all of this season’s nominees and winners – click here.
