Welcome back to the Thursday Q&A series, where we focus on one particular topic – today's being the close of the summer transfer window – and ask you to react, share, and discuss in the comments section. However, feel free to ask about anything game-related (MLS, USL, NASL, USMNT, CanMNT, etc.) over the next several hours.
Usually I put this Q&A together in the form of a column so that it can sort of live on after the questions are done, but...
Not today!
Today, like the rest of you, I'm going to be refreshing my Twitter feed and checking my inbox to see what news is breaking, what news is broken, and who's about to go broke.
Some DP-sized moves already consummated this window:
- Gilberto to the Chicago Fire, off waivers from Toronto FC
- Gaston Sauro comes in to help patch the leaky Crew SC defense
- Alvaro Saborio traded from RSL to D.C. United
- Ezequiel Cirigliano on loan to FC Dallas from River Plate
- Steven Gerrard and Giovani Dos Santos to the LA Galaxy, where Sebastian Lletget will make them look good
- Didier Drogba and Johan Venegas to the Montreal Impact
- Andrea Pirlo and Jefferson Mena to NYCFC
- Shaun Wright-Phillips and Gonzalo Veron to RBNY
- David Mateos to Orlando City
- Tranquillo Barnetta to Philadelphia
- Lucas Melano adds to the Argie contingent in Portland
- Anibel Godoy comes to San Jose, and maybe means Wondo moves back to forward?
- Andreas Ivanschitz comes to the rescue, maybe, for Seattle's struggling midfield
- Ahmed Kantari gives Toronto some much-needed central defensive depth and experience
The full list of MLS Transactions goes over this stuff in minute detail. Some of the guys above have already made a big splash, while others won't debut for a few more weeks, a la Jermaine Jones last season.
And remember: Guys who are out of contract can still sign with MLS clubs even after the window closes, and teams are free to add new pieces up until the roster freeze on September 16.
Today, however, is the end when it comes to trades and transfers.
